Sutter Expansion Project

TREMAINE is monitoring construction near Business 80 and Sutter’s Fort, following a sensitivity assessment for environmental impacts. Initial findings include a cannonball, multi-colored bottles, and a complete male skeleton, confirming the presence of a suspected Gold Rush-era cemetery under the intersection of 28th and L Streets.

This project is situated just west of Business 80, east and west of historic Sutter’s Fort and known Indian Mound. TREMAINE has conducted a sensitivity assessment for the environmental impact report and completed the initial testing phase, and is now monitoring the construction. Finds thus far include a canon ball, several multi-colored bottles, and a complete male skeleton indicating the location of a long-suspected Gold Rush-era cemetery located right underneath the intersection of 28th and L Streets.
